PRINT | 'My kind of freedom'

Limited / Unlimited
This was a poster design contest between students of the Willem de Kooning academy (Rotterdam) and the Royal Academy of Art (the Hague) to design a poster about what freedom is to us. My design was one of the winning posters and was exhibited at the subway tunnel of The Hague for a few weeks, together with the other winning designs.

Everyone has their own perception of freedom. Freedom can mean simple things but it can also be about basic necessities. If we take it very personal, we would all be able to name a few moments, a few priveledges or rights, that make us feel free. I chose to combine existing freedom symbols to design my own symbols of freedom. The last poster was the final entry for the contest.

I: "The freedom to let your belly out and exhale"
The freedom you feel when you finally stop worrying about what others have to say about you, when you can finally exhale, be yourself, feel relaxed.

II: "The freedom to NOT fit into a box"
The freedom to be an unique individual, to not belong in one group. The freedom to not fit into a standard, to be your own individual standard.

III: "The freedom to reintroduce yourself"
The freedom to start fresh after you've gone through a personal change, growth or reversal. The freedom to change and be accepted while starting all over.

The pictures of the poster hanging in the subway tunnels of The Hague city center. How awesome is this.

A nice article about the contest and the winners in the Dutch newspaper.
