The last scenes of Egypt’s historic houseboats that have lined parts of Cairo’s lush Nile shores for centuries and swayed its political and cultural scenes in older, more glamourous chapters, have come to an end on the 4th of July 2022, as authorities moved to demolish or tow away what remains of these relics, and it’s residents scurried to pack their belongings, yet refused to leave the only places they’ve called home.
