Iittala, founded as a glassworks in 1881, is a Finnish design brand specialising in design objects, tableware and cookware.
In the package design renewal unneeded packages were eliminated, the appearance became more consistent, and the brand message was made more prominent. The main message, Timeless design since 1881, can now be seen as a strong graphical element. Beside it the story is told more fully in words and pictures. To highlight the design classics and the iconic designers a differentiating design style for “Iittala classics” was created. Also the campaign products stand out from the selection with a brighter color. The packages can be mixed and matched to create different appearances in retail displays. For Iittala, packaging is especially important worldwide, since in many markets they are the only media to communicate the brand.
