Nour is a set of display featuring LG's transparent OLED technology. It attaches to the window and works like an AR device that adds to the reality of the landscape. Nour is designed for people in long distance relationship with their friend, family or partner to experience companionship through the presence of each other despite distance. We view companionship as a long-term, subtle and steady mental state of feeling together. It is not about attention, but about ambience. Nour manifests these values through a series of interactive functions.
Concept: window as membrane
Windows are membranes that bridge two separated worlds. It is not only the architectural interface, but also the border to our personal bubble where interactions are channeled to take place. The project envisages the window as a portal that travels through distance.
The functions include:
the portal - the display shows the scenery of the the other connected window display
the journal - user can sketch on the transparent display. They can leave a note or draw interactively
the silhouette - the display shows the movement of a blurry figure of the other person when they're in front of the window. When there's a light source the silhouette is projected to the room. If both put their hands at the same spot of the display, a full-scale video call is activated.
The design takes on the language of layers of fog between the two separated users. The distance makes everything from the other side look opaque. Nour embraces such vagueness and translate that into a poetic reflection of companionship. It consists of 3 independent displays which correspond to the 3 functions, and an additional light source. Two cameras are deployed on the two sides of the beam. Simply slide in each display to the window frame to activate the corresponding function. The pieces can be layered to create different effect.
