DISPERSEED | James Dyson Award 2022 finalist

Hi!
We are a team of 6 students of the Engineering in Industrial Design and Product Development degree at the Universitat Politècnica of València. Here we show you the process of creating DISPERSEED, a sustainable design project that we presented in July 2022 to the James Dyson Award international design competition and that recently won the category of national finalist. We hope you like it!

Our project was published on the official Dyson website. The application includes an explanatory video of the project, as well as several slides and other texts that talk about the inspiration of the idea, the development of the proposal... etc. This is the link:

The team.
Within our design association, we decided to randomly gather 6 people to create the team that would develop DISPERSEED. We thought that the most interesting thing would be to have people from different courses in the same team, so that we could all learn more from each other. We got together 2 people from the first year (Carmen B. and Diego), 2 people from the second year (Claudia and David) and 2 people from the third year (Irene and Carmen A.) of our degree.

We have been very lucky, because it has been a fantastic year of work, where we all got along and laughed a lot.
The process.
We started off brainstorming and discussing different problems we could tackle and opted for the idea of helping in the reforestation of Mediterranean forests.

Then, we conducted a thorough investigation about the topic and looked for professionals in the sector who could help and teach us essential aspects in order to find a much more accurate solution. From that moment, we began an ideation process proposing a wide variety of ideas that met our requirements until we reached the final one. We first focused on meetings, sketches and modeling clay based designs.

Finally, once we had a clear idea of the product, we began to develop more complex prototypes with other materials and 3D printing technology to finish defining its final shape and dimensions. Throughout the process, there has been continuous group work and support that has led us to become a great team and develop this brand-new idea.
The video.
This is the video we have submitted to the James Dyson Award competition - take a look!
The posters.
These are four of the five posters we submitted to the contest. Each one explains an essential aspect of the project. The last one shows a 1:1 scale prototype of the product.
Thank you for all your support!!
