Before and after restoration:
Initial state:
The original stretcher frame was lost. The canvas had strong alterations and paint surface had various craquelure. Oil painting has become cracked and massive areas of paint were lifted from the canvas. The paint surface had dirt, yellowed varnish.
Done:
The back side of weakened original was cleaned of dirt, alterations were fixed. Edges of the canvas were cleaned and lined. The canvas was stretched on the new stretcher frame. Paint surface was consolidated, cleaned of dirt and yellowed varnish. The painting has been varnished and retouched.
