PROJECT BRIEF: During the fire is a series of photographs taken during a road trip through the state of California in the summer of 2013.

Throughout the summer more than 250000 acres were consumed by a wildfire in and around Yosemite’s national park.

This publication explores the idea of a road trip and how it has changed over time. The feeling of freedom is converted into a pre-established route, the sense of orientation converts into GPS data, planning takes the place of improvisation and losing your way becomes more and more difficult.

This publication also shows the contrast between inland and coastal temperatures, landscapes, fauna, flora, and cliches, the linearity of the journey, the visual impact caused by the fire (represented by the color red), and the mechanization of the idea of the road trip.

All the pictures were taken with a GoPro Camera, full color, but the smoke in the air gave the pictures an unexpected result: dullness and unfocused appearance which was reinforced by the black and white processing.

Uniting this set of 40 photographs, GPS coordinates will become the data to allow the reader to trace an invisible route across a map in their mind.

DURATION OF PROJECT: 1 month.
