I've been slightly obsessed with the Porsche 917k for most of my life - having been brought up watching Steve McQueen's "Le Mans" film on regular, raucous, VHS repeat . .

Over the past 4-5 years, I've already done two projects inspired by the 917's Iconic character - but my fascination for the original vehicle meant I couldn't resist taking another look at it.

This study seeks to capture the character and general principles of the original - but introducing new glitch technology elements designed to catapult it's potency into the realm of near future / SciFi . .

Imagine a time-travelling race engineer's home-built restomod . .  if you can.

To be honest, I didn't set out to model a chassis at the start of the project - but the more I got into designing and detailing the open rear end, the more I realised it was a great opportunity to noodle some extra details.

Once I'd got the core concept defined, it felt inevitable to do some localised bodywork mods to build an open topped high downforce CanAm variant.

I've lost track of how much time I've spent on this over the past 3-4 months - having made the conscious decision this year to slow the pace of my output down - and enjoy the process of tweaking / refining things until I felt they looked right.

This project has been a load of fun for me - I hope you enjoy it too.
