Tibor Benedek (Budapest, 12 July 1972 - Budapest, 18 June 2020), three-
time Olympic, World and European champion Hungarian water polo player,
head coach of the Hungary men’s national water polo team from 2013 to
2016. Hungarian member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame (Team
Hungary 2000-2008). He had an illustrious career filled with success both
at national team and club level, among many titles, he had four Champions
League crowns (one with Ujpest (HUN), three with Recco (ITA). As head coach,
he led the Hungarian national team to a world championships title in 2013
and he finished runner-up with the team at the European Championships in
2014 and bronze medallist in 2016. He died in June 2020 at the age of 47.
In June 2021, his memorial plaque and a promenade
named after him were unveiled in Recco, Italy.

Krisztina Egerszegi (Budapest, 16 August 1974) five-time Olympic, two-time World
and nine-time European champion Hungarian swimmer, awarded with the Order
of St. Stephen of Hungary. One of the most successful Hungarian athletes of the
modern Olympics, the youngest Hungarian Olympic champion since 1988. She
became Olympic champion at the age of 14 at the 1988 Seoul Olympics: the young
swimmer, nicknamed Egérke (‘Mouse’), won the 200m backstroke gold medal and
three days earlier the 100m backstroke silver medal, making her the youngest
athlete ever to win more than one medal at the Olympic Games, even after the
Olímpic Games in Tokyo (2021). Krisztina retired from competitive swimming after
the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Tamás Darnyi (Budapest, 3 June 1967) four-time Olympic, four-time World and eight-
time European champion Hungarian swimmer. He was the first in the world to swim the
200m IM under two minutes. He is the only swimmer in the modern era who was never
been beaten in any individual medley race he entered at major championships. He
was voted Hungarian Athlete of the Year five times and he was the European Athlete
of the Year in 1991. Till date, he is the most successful Hungarian male swimmer. He
has been a member of the Hungarian National Olympic Committee since 1989. In 1996
he became a member of the board of the Hungarian Swimming Federation.
