Large Cattle Creature Design

Final painting.
Self-directed creature design of a large heard animal for a game world. It would live in snowy climates and be a resourse of meat and wool.
Design process
My starting point for this project was to study large ruminants such as bison, moose and yak. As with my previous creature design I drew animals from life to understand them.

Once that was out the way I produced many rough sketches for my fantasy ruminant.

Further development and scaling.
Onto Refinement and colour schemes. I played around with natural colour schemes as I wanted my design to look realistic.
Skin and wool colourations.
Developing my chosen colour scheme of black white and brown further.
Now that I have my design all planned out I went onto plan the concept art of the creature in the game setting. I painted several thumbnail scenes. The main emphasis was the scale of the creature so I experimented with greyscale lighting and angles to get the right feeling.
Thumbnails for the final painting, I selected the bottom left to work with.
