Information Design - Dim

An information design assignment / light pollution awareness campaign.

Done in response to the brief :
"The Department of Conservation require the production of an informative campaign of information about it that create awareness and encourages engagement"

I created Dim, a Sub-brand of the Department of Conservation and the forefront of its campaign of helping everyday home owners to be able to reduce their Light Pollution Impact. For the campaign, I created an app to be able to engage with my Target Audience and provide a platform for them to make meaningful change to their outgoing Light Pollution.

Throughout its development, I pulled a lot of inspiration from modern vector graphics and its simplicity, along with the night sky. Throughout the Design, I aimed to provide simplistic graphics whilst using hierarchy to promote engagement via the usage of Buttons, and prompts.

The Reason behind Dim:
"Every day needs a night"

All around us this unintended pollutant is taking a silent toll. Each year, thousands of migrating and shorebirds are killed because of unnecessary artificial light at night. It also impacts our quality of life by eradicating our access to the wonder of beautiful night skies.

Light Pollution unfortunately isn't talked about commonly in Households across New Zealand. The Department of Conservation wanted to run a campaign in order to promote the common New Zealand Household to get involved in looking after our stars, and our wildlife.

The Reason behind our name:
The name Dim originated from one of the ways to reduce light pollution being to use Dimmers, or alternatively using Light bulbs that naturally are Dim. I wanted the name to be able to portray the message Dim as a campaign is trying to push for whilst being simple to pronounce, and write.
