30 Degree Residence is a personal outhouse located near Kalimpong, Siliguri, designed for Mr. Samrat for a quiet retreat from workaday life.
This duplex sits on an empty plot surrounded by foliage, providing the liberty to design outward looking spaces, and larger openings for a breathable space.
It consists of 3 bedrooms, 1 Double height Living room, 1 Kitchen & Dining, and a small outdoor lawn
Creating Concept sketches
Making a series of volumetric sketches to understand the zoning and placement of spaces.
The central spine of the building was rotated at an angle of 30 degrees to achieve a shift of axis, and an interesting play of volumes.
Bedrooms on the first floor level are pushed to different heights to achieve an interesting play of sections.
The lower height area is made the parking, and the other bedroom heights are equally distributed among the one below & above.
The end points of the central axis are double heights, and kept partially open for visual elegance.
