Concept
How Do You Sleep?” is an album identity design project. It includes album cover and poster.
My approach is based on Sam Smith’s femininity and freedom. I tried to show his coolness as a successful artist. His previous album designs were very minimal and I continued this idea, I added some abstractions. The album’s concept is based on Sam’s homosexual identity and no longer afraid to show it. For the first time, he started to dance in a songs’ clip and wore high heels. It is the first album that he really feels like himself. As he said “Feeling free is quite special.”
I used rainbow flags for representing LGBTI+ and red high heels, handlettering typeface for showing his femininity. Dark blue used for representing his masculine side. Sam‘s portrait photograph is taken from photographer Steve Neaves’ photoshoot.
