A short video showing the finished model rotating as if on a turntable

Nomad Sculpt, a sculpting app for the iPad was used to create this model. Nomad allows you sculpt, paint and render your models in one place.  the turntable video above was also generated in the app using an experimental feature.  The start and ending titles to the video were added using Adobe Premiere Rush.  The final image with added saber and other environmental effects was created by exporting a 4K png of the 3D render from Nomad Sculpt, and then using Adobe Photoshop to add the additional effects.

The process of creating a model in Nomad Sculpt

First of all the basic shapes of the head, body and arms were blocked out using primitive shapes, such as spheres and cylinders. Some shaping of the head, ears and eyes was carried out prior to me thinking about making a project of the process.

Main body shapes blocked out

After the blocking out was done, the head, body and arms were refined using a combination of sculpting tools such as, clay, smooth, flatten, crease etc.  Other additions at this stage included a diorama style base, along with some texture.

Next the hands and claws were made by using cylinders for the arms and hands, and the tube making tool for the claws. The model was refined further by adding more texture to the neck and cuffs of the clothing, along with some creases in the cloth, whilst also making the body slightly taller.  This was followed by some initial paining of the body, hands and base.  Some of the lighting, which helps accentuate the textures and overall three dimensional shape of the model, was also added at this stage.

This stage saw the addition of the horns to the head using the tube tool to form one and the copying that horn a further five times. The eyes were blocked out using two spheres for each, with one being slightly larger than the other.  The larger sphere was changed to be clear using the material properties, this helps with the reflection of light by the eyes, as the smaller of the spheres were painted a matt black.  Experimentation was also carried out for the colour of the tattoo's on the head and arms, as can be seen in the image below gloss black was too reflective.

This stage saw the addition of details to the horns, claws and lightsaber.  The horns and claws were painted in a different colour and creases added to them to make them look more organic, the light saver had the hilt colour changed and details added so it resembles the one wielded by Darth Maul.  The sabers blades had their material properties changed to resemble red glass and refraction of. light entering the glass parts.  A matt black paint was red for the head and arm tattoo's along with a different pattern being used.  Tweaks were made to the positions of the lights.  The base was also recoloured along with the addition of a mouse hiding by the rocks.

For the final image a render of the final model was made and the image saved as a PNG, this was then taken into Adobe Photoshop to make the lightsaber blades glow, and a layer was added  with red paint made to resemble the glow from the blades being reflected in the surrounding environment, the models clothes the sand of the base and the rocks.
