The annual Riverfest celebration begins with a band concert on Friday afternoon, followed by a full day of activities on Saturday. This Waltham holiday takes place on the banks of the Charles River, near the red brick textile mill (still standing) where the modern American Industrial Revolution got its start in 1813.
Sudden strong gusts of wind came barreling down the river just when the tent was due to go up. Struggling against the wind, the men finally wrestled the tent into submission. Then, on cue, the wind let up and the late afternoon sun came out, low and bright behind the band—so bright that, protective of the camera, I gave up taking any more band shots. Saturday's photos can be seen here.
