Pessoa (2022)

Fernando Pessoa was a famous Portuguese writer, known for having many heteronyms. The “Pessoa” writing desk finds its inspirations on his work, mainly on the work of Alberto Caeiro, Ricardo Reis and Álvaro de Campos, assuming their different ways of being and personalities as something that can coexist in a single desk.

“Pessoa” desk has 3 levels of interaction with the user, a curved panel, a table top and a gap between the both of them which represents the present or the connection of future and past.

The classy and almost vintage look of the overall shape of the desk is reminiscent of Ricardo Reis, known as an anti-modernist and for having a very classical approach in writing.

The attention to details, mainly on the joints, and the value of the natural (wood construction) and simplicity (minimal desk) resembles Alberto Caeiro way of being in life. For him the most important was to feel more and think less, something thought and explored throughout the key functions of the desk, especially for storage and organization purposes in which you can choose to have a messy or clean desk using drawers, stands, and other fixtures.

“Pessoa” writing desk comes with 2 accessories that attach to the back central panel through a cut out. These are sliding objects and can be used for extra storage or functionality. Inspired on Álvaro de Campos identity, who was known for loving the future but being pessimist and afraid about it, instead of sliding from corner to corner and instead of being something more elaborated this feature was sort of contained to become something that could be something more and to represent the will of breaking the rules, but not entirely.
