Furnish with Colours

What once was a church is now a home.
This is nothing new in the Upper Tiber valley area, which is dotted with renovated properties, now homes and often a far cry from their previous functions.
This issue’s featured house was formerly a medieval church building from 1200 CE, situated on “Via Francigena di San Francesco”, and is still a place of pilgrimage.
It’s been completely renovated from the inside to the outside, but retains its original terracotta floors in the downstairs bathroom and kitchen, as well as its wooden beams.
This is in contrast with the very modern kitchen, strong colours, and the use of glass and stainless steel. Coloured vertical stripes on the walls and other creative elements of modern design integrate with the furnishings.
The outside completely harmonises with the living space.
The colours of the Mediterranean planting in the garden contrast well with the colours of the stone.
This house demonstrates how beautifully one can blend the very old with the modern, with a touch of flair.
