When I got my first macro lens, the 100 mm Macro from Canon, my food photography started to improve. Of course the lens I purchased was a great quality one, and this reflected on the quality of my images, but what really changed was my approach to food photography.

I started obsessing over details, because I was finally able to get close to my subject and to capture beautiful sharp details of food textures. The way I look at food has also changed: a simple photo of a bay leaf could become a gorgeous minimal image in which textures and colors are the main subject.

Food photography is all about details, be it the color and texture of an ingredient or the way food reflects light. With a macro lens I can bring more variety to my food photography portfolio and create interesting diptychs, where a photo of a recipe is paired with a macro shot of an ingredient or food detail.

As a food photographer, my job is to capture all the details of food and allow the viewer to taste a recipe simply by looking at an image.
