Urban Explorers Initiative

system development, interaction design
Urban Explorers was a city-exploring initiative designed to be a game-based organization that operated through a print book, a mobile app and a web site. The initiative encouraged users to get to know their city better. I worked on the mobile app for our initiative. The mobile app was intended to be used while exploring the city. It's purpose was two-fold. On one side, it operated as step by step directions during exploring; guiding a user from picking a hunt through the clues and directions to the final destination. On the other side, the mobile app served as a networking device to track the hunts of a user as well as connect that user to friends on the network or users interested in the same hunts. In designing the different formats individually, we were influenced by how the different formats would operate together as one system, given the affordances of each format as well as the functions that overlapped.
