A mock book cover for an imagined YA novel with a protagonist who is a wheelchair user. I used a photo from a project called Wheelchair of the Month by South Korean YouTuber Jiwoo Kim (a.k.a. Rolling GURU) where she customises her wheelchair in different themes and presents the processes and outcomes on her YouTube and Instagram accounts. This cover is inspired by her “high-teen” themed photo where she poses herself as a main character of a YA book/ drama/ film. Growing up in Korea, GURU didn’t have disabled students in classes other than herself. In fact, disabled children in Korea often end up in specialised schools and have little representation in mainstream media. She calls for inclusion of disabled people in media and society.
