Disjointed Travel Log

For many years I have been fascinated by the photographic process to capture time and memory in an artifact, a photograph of an experience. While visiting Vallauris, making photographs, I am inspired by the picturesque landscape and warm Mediterranean Sea, as well as the experience of travel and the emotional displacement of finding myself as a foreigner far from home. As I move through the world, breathing, walking, seeing, I find both familiar and strange feelings in each day. I create order and find comfort through my camera and the act of photography in depicting the complexity of these moments. Later in the studio, I project the images onto ceramic forms that resemble waves. Forms made by gently folding clay into abstract shapes. I recapture the moments, mediated and distorted by the process, like the new memories forming in my mind. They are recognizable, strange, and misleading. The camera mediates my every experience.
