Vanishing spots
Illustrations for the 2022 Ashia Illustration competition
Ashia is a Cheetah conservation center. They give hope for the future of the cheetah species through Ashia’s Reintroduction and Research Programs, and offering the best life to the animals in need of care at the Cheetah Center in Paarl.
Concept:
For these illustrations I was inspired by the Cheetah’s spots and the fact that their spots will vanish from nature if their numbers keep declining. Their spots reminded me of stars at night. During the night the sky is full of stars/spots. When there are no longer any Cheetahs we will have to look up at the sky to see spots in natural environments, as we won’t be able to see them on cheetahs any longer. The Cheetah’s silhouette in the illustration does not have spots, to further illustrate the fact that the world is losing spots when cheetahs disappear.
The Shooting stars in the illustration, that the cheetah looks up at symbolizes the Hope that Ashia Cheetah Conservation helps gives our beloved cheetahs. Shooting stars are said to represent positive energy, it thus suits Ashia who help to make a positive change in nature.
