Book Cover Design

Deepali Junjappa's book adresses the twenties. All the excitement & all the tension of being grown ups - seen through the characters in the book. There is even a helpful Manual for the Twisted Twenties at the end of the book for those who find the book while they are in their twenties!
Handmade type, humourous, strange and awkward characters are what came to mind on reading excerpts from the book.

Majority of the Indian commercial design discussions for corporate and publishing projects reveal that they are nervous about experiments. Sometimes too nervous to even look into the context and allow something fun for it .

This is especially true for book covers. The marketing people decide what the look of the cover should be as opposed to the art director! I don't know how this equation holds elsewhere but its intriguing for sure. I would imagine the writer, the book agent, the art director and the marketing person would all sit and agree/disagree on things until everyone's inputs had been considered. Some publishing houses allow the writer to seek a designer/illustrator and create a book cover independently.
This is a good space, ideating between the writer and designer is a great process.

Here's a safe experiment - not pushing too many boundaries, not being too standard.
Fun nonethless :)
