Protest — Carnation Revolution

April 25th
The Carnation Revolution
in Portugal
April 25th is the day that commemorates the revolution that ended the dictatorial regime of Portugal in 1974.
Soldiers took to the streets in opposition to the government.

Soon they were joined by civilians, who shared their ideas

of independence and anti-colonialism.
This April 25th 1974 is the end of forty-eight years
of fascist dictatorship.

The red carnations became a symbol of the revolution.

They were offered by the population to the soldiers,
who put them in the barrels of their rifles.
