Footprint

“A giant human footprint of 1.000m2 appeared in Greece”

The Greek visual artist The Krank created a 1.000 square meters land art installation for Paxos Biennale 2022, which echoes that humanity continues to do more harm than good to nature.

The artist used a big part of land as a canvas and worked in silence for 15 days with his bold and touching message which shaked the whole island of Paxos. His artwork is spotlighting the urgent need for a balance between economic growth, social well-being and environmental conservation while the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to cast a shadow over global sustainable development discussions.

"Conceptually, footprint deals with the meaning of loss. Nature, ecosystems, biodiversity, are in a variable state with a negative sign. The parallelism that emerges through the ephemerality of my work, and of our presence as a species, reinforces the message I wanted to communicate. Everything is fluid, and nothing should be taken for granted."
