Rocky Road Cheesecake
The brief was to create limited edition packaging for the Waitrose Just Desserts range. I chose a Rocky Road Cheesecake. Rocky Road originated in American and was initially an ice-cream flavour. It was created and named in 1929 after the Wall St. Crash occurred. The branding for Just Desserts took its inspiration from old 1920's ticket stubs. The surface graphics of the packaging celebrate the achievements in America in the 1920's rather than associating it with the shortcomings. This era was filled with the Jazz music of Louis Armstrong, the Flapper Girl fashion, the stunning Art Deco on New York's Chrysler Building and the emergence of 'talkies' in cinema. Combining such themes with headline typography produced the packaging of an All-American Rocky Road Cheesecake - 'a richer tasting route'.
