A total of 22 principals (17 elementary and 5 middle school), were recognized from across the U.S. The list conforms to the association’s mission of appreciating the role assistant principals’ play in uplifting their school communities.

According to L. Earl Franks, NAESP Executive Director, assistant principals are critical for the success of every school community, as they are involved in all aspects of the school, including supporting faculty and staff. In addition, they play a pivotal role in creating a positive school climate that emphasizes both academic and social-emotional prosperity.

Winners of this award are assistant principals with a track record of exemplary leadership, possess at least two years’ experience in their roles, and have set top standards for their students, colleagues, and the entire community. Colleagues in their states nominate those who make it to the lists.
