The shadow over Innsmouth

Thesis of master's degree in Digital Architecture (MADI) at IUAV, VIII edition
Scene 1: Restlessness
The first scene begins to paint the shady and abandoned atmosphere of the fishermen's village of Innsmouth, located in the nightmarish New England of Lovecraft, where a sinking lonely boat is trying to reach some old and broken pier.

Scene 2: The lantern
The second shot takes us deeper within the doomed village. The rough sea in the background tell that something under it is waking up. An old lantern hanging on a brick wall looks at the old Gilman House.
Even the artificial lights of the street are cold, like they are about to light off.

The idea behind every part of the scene's main focus, the lantern boyd, was to start with some simple and basic geometries, which would have been edited and modified with only edit poly modifiers in order to obtain complex and refined elements, without the need to model too many elements.
Modeling of the lantern: hanging ornament
Starting with a spline emulating the path of an hanging decoration, a following sweep modifier to give the geometry some mass, with some edit poly to smooth and refine the final result.
Modeling of the lantern: main body
A simple box as starting point, with a first edit poly to generate the bottom decorations and a second to create some "volume" which will be subtracted in order to create the four pillars of the lantern; going on with some other edit poly modifiers to create te upper part with all its decorations and ornaments.

Scene 3: Through Innsmouth' streets
Leaving the stormy sea behind, we enter deeply in within the city. Heavy rain falls down on the streets, a dark and menacing sky looking down the entire village. From every decaying building, strange figures start to hunt the poor visitor. Deformed shadows begin to lurk in the dark, right behind the warehouse.
A sick and corrupted atmosphere infects the whole town like a curse.

Scene 4: Rain
After a long run, the protagonist falls on the slimy and corrupted ground, looking at a lonely gutter near the sidewalk.

MAKING OF _ assets: clay models of the assets used in the scene, the docks, the lamppost, the lantern and the hanging iron rings, the lighthouse and the electricity post; then, two different type of houses, the Gilman House and the warehouse.
