MULTIFUNCTIONAL PUBLIC & BUSINESS COMPLEX IN KRONSTADT

MULTIFUNCTIONAL PUBLIC AND BUSINESS COMPLEX
Bachelor's graduation project // Saint Petersburg State University Of Architecture And Civil Engineering (SPbSUAE)
Year: 2021
Location: Kronstadt, Saint-Petersburg, Russia

The design is subject to the principle of "from general to particular" and consists of the following stages:
1. General urban development concept of the city
2. The concept of the master plan of the territory
3. Formation of the mixed use quarter
4. Architecture of a multifunctional public and business complex
I. PROJECT SITE IN THE STRUCTURE OF THE CITY
Kronstadt is on the way of transition from a monocentric model of urban agglomerations to a polycentric one. A unified system of public spaces is being created, providing a link between the historical center and the newly developed territories.
The projected territory is located in the south of the central part of Kotlin Island, on the embankment of the Gulf of Finland. The site is now a closed military territory and is not used for its intended purpose. Almost the entire territory is in the flood zone, so it is necessary to take measures to strengthen and raise the soil and create an alluvial area.

1. The main urban planning axes (and axes for forts) connecting the main public nodes of Kronstadt have been laid
2. The site is integrated into the urban structure:
    - a single line of residential development has been formed,
    - the entrances to the existing park "island of Forts" and the Gazprom sports complex have been taken into account,
    - a single embankment space has been formed, uniting coastal territories in the east and west,
    - access to the Fort "Peter 1" has been provided.
3. The general functional zoning of the territory is formed based on the analysis
II. THE CONCEPT OF THE MASTER PLAN
1. Two main directions to the forts
2. Division into residential and public functions
3. Creating dominants
4. Uniform planes of facades along boulevards
III. MULTIFUNCTIONAL PUBLIC AND BUSINESS COMPLEX
The shape of the building was the result of urban factors: at the intersection of two boulevard axes and creating line of the Kotlin Island embankment. It was important to save historical and identification features of city. Therefore, the dominant feature is the cylindrical block of the conference hall refers to the shape of fort "Alexander 1"; the sharp nose of the building, refers to the maritime history of the city.
The entrance to the building is through a cylindrical block. The visitor is walking over the bridges, surrounded by water with reeds - one of the important identification features that was detected on the project site before the stage of design.

The complex has an office block, conference hall, coworking, restaurant. Entrances are both from the embankment and from the boulevard, what provides various scenarios of using public spaces.
