Luminous Windows is a series of handheldobjects, rings and arm piece exploring the tactility of precious bodyadornment. The silver puzzle pieces were originally made to study the dualityof the sliding mechanism, with a motif extruded to different heights anddepths, which created a different appearance on the back. The unit as a module,can be duplicated and assembled as large as desired, the tessellation empowersthe infinite expansion. In order for the pieces to move, framing is needed bothon the top and bottom, and a middle layer offset to one corner is sandwiched inbetween along with the tile pieces. The precision of spacing and calculationmuch like any other mechanical equipment is crucial to the movement. Instead ofa linear frame that would evidently expose the details, I took inspirationsfrom the latticework and window casing in Chinese architecture, and made thegraphics on the modular tiles into an ornamental openwork surface with aprecise cutout to encase the puzzle pieces. The circular form and the slightlydomed shape completed with the frosted acrylic disk successfully hide away allthe engineering; together the three elements extract the piece to its purestessence, as well as liberating the focus and attention on the mechanism. Thehandheld object thus quietly sits in the centre of the palm, allowing thefingertips to chase after the empty window, where light spills through the organicgeometry and illuminates the space between the object and the body.
