My research work is multidisciplinary spreading across the fields of art, design, psychology, sociology and medicine. Having lived a long history of instability and wars in Lebanon and with the political turmoil happening around in the Arab countries, my work aims at communicating with people’s subconscious perceptions through images, videos and sounds to create feelings of serenity and happiness within a person, which in turn brings peaceful thoughts to minds troubled by social turmoil. My work addresses all people equally in a language that transcends violence. The work is environmental work / ambient media, using light projections of still images, videos and sounds that interact with pedestrians on the city streets. My installations have spread around several areas in the UK and Lebanon including Loughborough, London, Jbeil, Achrafieh, Gemmayze and Downtown Beirut. Through these installations I was able to test the effectiveness and success of the work. This area of work and research is being further developed, to be applied in hospitals as therapy for patients.
My stated area of research raises new questions to study such as the designer’s political role specifically in the Middle East, skirting around an important concept that is central to the study of communications and culture: ideology. My research focuses on communication process, design being an agent of ideology and culture being divided into dominant cultures and sub-cultures, and design being autonomous and heteronomous.
