walden

While furnishing my new apartment - an ecological wood building in the middle of Berlin by a group of local architects - I realized design furnitures which I wished to buy are way beyond my budget, especially those renowned design classics of the last century.

So I decided to use solid wood to craft my own design classics, to pay my homage to those modernism masters and to adapt them in many aspects to fit my own needs.
Due to the pandemic, even with the great help of local craftsmen, the process has been extensively long and difficult.

To echo the spirit of David Henry Thoreau, I name this prototype series Walden to celebrate this special journey of my life and career, which is full of loneliness, contemplations, pains and gains.

Side Table

Upon first encounter, the essence of Eileen Gray is instantly recognizable from this side table, yet being wood means it is unique in all aspects.
Each part is precisely crafted for a perfect mechanical fit. Like a reminder of the tradition, a wooden stick joins the two sliding parts together, with three heights to choose from. The base ring is as wide as the table top, but slightly thicker for stability and visual balance. It can be slid under the sofa. The quarter cut is another good idea for combining with other furnitures
Floor Lamp

This floor lamp is a minimalistic scaffold of dot, line and surface in three dimensions. Presenting totally distinct visual forms from different perspectives, the lamp is uncompromising in function.

Held in position by magnets, the lamp holder is free rotatable, turning the lamp into either an uplight or a reading lamp. At the turn of the bracket key, the lamp pole can be fixed to three slots at the base slab.
Lounge Chair

Like a real-size 3D wooden puzzle, this lounge chair - consisting of only wooden boards and a leather sheet - effortlessly recreates a sitting machine of geometry interplay.
Inserted into each other, the wooden boards compose an empty volume big enough to embrace a human body. At the same time, pressure and weight are cleverly distributed without stressing the boards. Where body touches the wood, edges are filleted to maximize comfort.
