Vivid Sydney: Best of the What’s to Come

It’s finally time for Sydney to dress up in Vivid colours once again! Sydney’s favourite festival of lights, music and ideas is back on the city’s social calendar, after two long years of absence. Vivid Sydney 2022, the annual festivity that showcases the creative side of the city is looking to be bigger, brighter and better than ever with an array of events, 200 to be precise! If you're a fan of the festival and are looking to make the most out of it, read along and find more about events.

The famous Sydney Harbour is reputed to be one of the main attractions of Sydney and for Vivid, this gets even better. Lot of the light installations centre around this iconic harbour including a few major highlights of the event– Lighting of the Sails of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Luna Park, among others. Millions flock to the harbour to witness this grand spectacle, making it one of the most buzzing destinations during Vivid Sydney. The ideal way for anyone looking to explore the harbour events and light projections is on the spectacular Vivid Light Cruise. Even better if you can hop on the premium glass boat with floor-to-ceiling glass windows! The iconic view of the harbour gets even better on this custom-built glass boat, offering 360° views of everything around– including Circular Quay, The Rocks, Barangaroo and more! So what’s the wait? Grab your seats now!

The Streets of Barangaroo

Formerly a busy port and home of industrial warehouses, Barangaroo is now one of the go-to destinations where locals and tourists come to play! With an array of top-class restaurants and busy bars, the region is swarmed by people day in and day out. When Vivid lights up Barangaroo and its precinct, it becomes a feast for our senses. Check out the light displays and installations at Exchange Square, along the Wulugul Walk and at the reserve. Following the well-lit trail of the Wulugul Walk will take you through some secret laneways, into a foodie heaven and the striking natural landscapes of the Barangaroo Reserve. Located near to the Central Business District, one can easily get here on bus, ferry or through the underground tunnel from Wynyard Station.

Our Connected City

This massive-scale installation by Mandylights seeks to connect the city with lights. All the towering skyscrapers and iconic landmarks in the city stand tall with their own identities, status and presence. Witness what happens when these giant buildings are interconnected with a kaleidoscope of laser lights! The connection between these buildings and the city becomes more profound and evident with an intense colourful design. At the same time, over 150 searchlights will burst into the skies, creating a trail of light across the clouds! This expansive spectacle will be coordinated in perfect synchronicity and together they will connect us to the roots of our city and its environment.

Showstoppers from First Nations Artists

From the hottest debutants at the Opera House, to thought-provoking thinkers, storytellers and talented artists, Vivid Sydney 2022 has over 25 events inspired by First Nations artists. The launch of the festival at First Light can also be seen as a special ceremony for the Gadigal people of the land, with smoking ceremonies, an uplifting performance by NAISDA dancers and more. Elsewhere on the music scene, Miiesha will take to the Opera House with her RnB, neo-soul and gospel energy, in what will be a special one-night performance. Multi-award winning, Filipino-Wiradjuri singer, Mo’ju, is a queer icon who has been on the come up for some time now and will cause a storm at Tumbalong Nights. Don’t miss out!
