Sketch Design System for Amazon Creative teams - 2020
Back in 2018, Amazon Creative teams introduced Sketch as the number one tool to build the skeleton and the Design for landing pages for the Amazon ecosystem. In the beginning teams were lacking a system, which would enable them to build a landing page in a responsive way, but each platform version had to be built seperately, hence our creative teams were quite limited in the way they build landingpage experiences on our platform. When a Designer at Amazon Ads wanted to create a Landing Page in Sketch for Presales or Sold Work, they would usually start setting up the Mobile layout. The Sketch Design System enables Designer, to use Symbols, Atomic elements and Amazon typical elements, e.g. Amazon Buy Box, Product carousels or image galleries, which can be used across platforms helping the Creatives being more effective and save around 30% of their time.
The Sketch Design Master template for building responsive websites includes symbols for quickly dropping in texts, images, buttons, and will help Creatives to use Amazon corporate elements such as corporate colors and fonts and will help to gain time during the creative process.
The tailored Design system allows designers to reuse styles, components, and patterns, which in turn gives them time to focus on higher-level thinking. In addition it empowers engineers to confidently implement new features without relying on redlines or back-and-forth pixel tweaking with the designer. And yet, comprehensive design systems in large organizations can introduce their own growing pains. In our case, one of our bottlenecks was in our Sketch templates.The fewer sources of truth we have for a design system, the more efficient we are.
Many components in this Sketch Design system can be reused across applications, significantly reducing development costs, creative efforts and time to market.
