My concept in creating the visual appearance of the puppets was to reduce them to basic symbols of the characteristics the paranoid Michael Kohlhaas projects on them. The human silhouettes behind the design serve to show the measurement - the puppets are half-body sized, they are tied to the puppetteer who can move certain parts of them to "vivify" the characters.
