The goal of this project is to create a company that sells their products online. It must have a unique shipping box using a label, stamp and/or custom tape for the exterior of the box. We must also design a minimum of two additional packaged products that would be inside the box.
Tom's Alley, also simply known as Tom's, is an online company that manufactures their own brand of cat products that normally is purchased through monthly subscription boxes. The targeted demographic are cat owners who want quality products with attitude. This is achieved through a funky, edgy design that also doesn't take itself too seriously by being ironic and somewhat silly.
The shipping box is made to look like the company's mascot, an alley cat named Tom. Although he looks a bit shady, he's an honest merchant at heart. The box is also sealed with a "paw-erful" seal, which is tape made to look like Tom's arms. He also has a shipping label on the side that is made too look like a patch for his trench coat.
Tom's standard Monthly subscription box includes:
- a 3 oz. treat bag
- at least two mystery toys
- a fresh potted cat grass plant
Tom's standard brand of cat treats is Cheeky Chews.
Tom's Fresh Cat Grass is contained in a pot made from recycled materials. It was designed to look like a cool, stylish trash can.
It's hot garbage!... but in a good way.
Zombie Salmon is one possible mystery toy you can get. The pole is extendable and its maximum length is 18 inches. It can retract to 6 inches.
Another possible toy is Cheez the Mouse, a plush catnip mouse toy. He kind of looks like a piece of cheese.
Surprise! Without anything inside, you can see that Tom is actually two kids in a trench coat
... I mean cats.
I chose fonts that resemble graffiti since graffiti are actual typography you can see in alleyways. The main colors are just black and white for a dark and edgy look. It also makes whatever other colors used pop out.
One happy customer!
Tom's Alley hopes to help the environment by being eco friendly, producing products using recycled materials, and promoting ways to reuse to reduce trash and waste. For instance, many cats love boxes and the shipping box can be reused as another toy for your cat. Its cool design is also a plus.
