Crafting the Space
NID's VIP guesthouse is one of the prestigious spaces at NID. It has hosted many important people at various occasions. Being a space with great importance for the campus, it would be great if there had been something to enhance the importance. Hence, our batch was assigned with this space to intervene with textiles.

The Bedroom
I chose to work with the bedroom so as to give its users a memorable stay in the space. It is also the space where the visiting faculties would stay longer than in any other place of the guesthouse.

Choosing a Craft based Approach
The institution has an interesting way of integrating the local culture with modernism. So, I wanted to highlight this aspect of NID. I was inspired from the Katab technique and developed a new approach to the technique.

Understanding the technique
I condensed the whole technique to three main steps - Slit, fold & Stitch. And the went to see other ways of looking at the same step. Initial explorations were done on paper.
Making it on the fabric
Since Katab(applique) is an art that can create magic with light I chose to make a lampshade, that can enhance the technique and create new forms.
