For my year two final major project I decided to select the pathway of Fashion Communication and Promotional Material. For my outcome I decided to design and create an editorial magazine focused on the history and beauty of the LGBTQ+ community.
At the start of my project I created a concept board that explored the style of my final outcome and the content I wanted to include inside.
After deciding on the theme and aesthetic of my concept I created a customer profile board that explores their interests and needs.
Using platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram I discovered a variety of unique and graphic magazines that explores the idea of combining articles and artwork. Using Photoshop I put together two concept boards that explore aspects I wanted to include in my own final outcome.
I decided to include three photoshoots in my magazine that explore breaking gender and society boundaries. In response to this I created a fashion photography concept board that explores the style of photography I want to include as well as research into the golden ratio rule.
For my first photoshoot I created a concept board and experiment sheet to encourage and develop my ideas.
My first photoshoot consist of a location shoot where I explore collaging inspired by David Hockney and experimented with layering smaller aspects of the image.
For the magazine I decided to create a colour research board using WGSN to find new and upcoming colour trends. This colour scheme is shown throughout my magazine to create a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing magazine.
In response to the survey I conducted on Survey Monkey I found out my target audience prefers Pop Art to any other art style so I decided to research and include this art style within my magazine.
I researched and analysed existing magazines.
I created a wide variety of samples for my magazine ranging from drawings, printmaking, illustrations and digital artwork.
For my next photoshoot I featured a straight white male in a dress to demonstrate rebelling and change against society’s standards. This was included in the middle of my magazine with key quotes.
I conducted my next photoshoot to focus on vulnerability and people being themselves. Using inspiration from David Hockney I decided to experiment by collaging smaller photos over the top as well as text.
