CLOSE TO HEAVEN
Close to Heaven is my photo project about the Ruhpolding mountain cemetery in the bavarian town of Ruhpolding, Germany.
The cemetery stands on a rocky mountain above the town and was mentioned historically in the 18th century due to structural changes. The site has been built in terraces into the mountainside, making it difficult to lay out the graves in the past and today. The space of the graves is very limited. At the highest point of the cemetery stands the crypt chapel, which was built around 1758. The special feature of the place is the view over the valley and the multitude of wrought iron and carved crosses from past and present times.
