The Boy & the Monster
‘In place of the fear that should have grabbed the boy by his ankles and held him helpless where he stood, a different feeling urged him to move closer to the monster. He slowly set his lantern on the ground and cautiously stepped forward. Then another step. As he drew near the approaching beast, it lowered its great head, its eyes glowing in the lantern’s light. He was so close he could feel its hot breath envelope him in a cloud of warmth. The boy stood on the tips of his toes as he reached his hand up...’

This illustration started as an idea for a story. I wanted the composition to capture the emotion of the story's overall theme through the perspective of a small child. This is another experiment to further develop skills in composition, scale, inking, light, and color.
