An animated tribute to my hero, filmmaker Steven Spielberg.
This was rotoscoped frame by frame (over footage from Spielberg's films) on Adobe Flash CS5, composited and edited on Sony Vegas Pro 12, with the backgrounds created on Adobe Photoshop CS5. The animation runs at 12 frames per second. The music was composed by the great John Williams.
You can get a sense of my process from the GIF below.
This short film was featured in one of my pieces for the Foreign Correspondents blog of RogerEbert.com along with an article in which I explain my admiration for Spielberg and the reasons why I consider him my hero.
Spielberg happened to see my short film there and hand-wrote me a letter in response.
I am incredibly thankful that Spielberg took the time off to write such a kind letter to someone, to encourage that person to pursue his dreams. It is an act of such kindness that demonstrates his goodness isn’t just restricted to his films.
I treasure this letter with the most sincere humility.
