According to several studies, horseback riding is the most dangerous sport.
Horse behavior can be unpredictable, this is why accidents are common.
Stirrups can be a dreadful trap : in the event of a fall, if the rider's boot slips through the stirrup, the foot may remain blocked.
No need to describe what could happen to a rider dragged by one leg under the feet of a panicking horse...

In recent years, different models of safety stirrups have emerged, but most of them are quite expensive,
and therefore not suitable for the many.
Our team of product owners, engineers, designers, riders, ... imagined, prototyped and tested various concepts with the aim to easily release the foot from the stirrup in the event of a fall.
The final concept consists of a leaf spring which unlocks under the leg's pressure ▼
Camille Ringenbach was in charge of footwear design while I was in charge of hard products at Fouganza.
We were both convinced that the connection area between the boot and the stirrup had to be thought of as a whole.

We imagined, prototyped and tested several stud patterns and selected the most efficient and easiest to get rid of sand.
Following proof of concept, we convinced the product development team to place the same pattern on the soles of the entire range of Fouganza boots, in the area of contact with the stirrup.
Fouganza boots + Fouganza stirrups = maximum grip.

To increase the lifetime of the stirrups, we designed them to be easily maintained or repaired if necessary.
