I researched different lighting fixtures that would cast different shadows, and effects such as grazing. This collage contains fixtures that interested me most for inspiration
These two models were mock ups for potential assemblies towards a final project. The figure on the right inspired the back wall in our final model. The figure on the left helped determine the orientation of the diamond patterns.
The paper mock up helped determine the diamond pattern that surround it in the image above.
A practice assembly of the back wall. Subtle curves were made to create a multifaceted form, cast a unique shadow, and let light through the cracks.
The beginning of the creation of the diamonds, which were made on AutoCAD. The diamonds were made with three different organic patterns to cast different shadows.
The three different templates were laid in several different organizations to determine the most asethetically pleasing pattern.
The pattern was assembled onto rails, which would all hang at different levels and were made to be adjustable.
The wall of the final project were the patterns would slide on these rails. An attention to clean craftsmenship was very important to make sure the rails would slide smoothly and hold the rails properly.
