This Houdini ocean simulation, based on a video I took of the Oregon coast, shows widely spaced, large angled waves moving forward and as well as smaller waves moving in the same angled direction. With the Ocean Spectrum geometry node, I created two separate types of waves and adjusted the waves' scales, wind direction, and choppiness. I limited the bounds of the ocean simulation and modified the wave tank’s depth with the FLIP Solver dynamics node. Additionally, I simulated whitewater (using the Whitewater Source, Whitewater Object, and the Whitewater Solver nodes) to show the natural foam created by the rolling waves.

HOUDINI was used to simulate the ocean waves and foam, set up the camera view and lighting, and render the simulation.

NUKE was used to denoise, adjust the simulation colour, and render the frames of the simulation into an image sequence.

AFTER EFFECTS was used to render the image sequence into a video.
