The winter of 2013/14 saw an irruption of snowy owls. Plum Island, in Massachusetts, is a hot spot for snowy sightings. I headed up there on several occassions to try to capture a good image of an owl. My first two trips I saw a lot of what is in the above image, nothing. On my third trip I finally got the images you see below.

I spotted this owl along the side of the road, just before Plum Island. She was hunting in the marsh from the top of a telephone pole.

She took off over the marsh 3 times. I was only able to get a few keepers.

This was my favorite shot from the day.
I did a little photoshopping to create this composite.

She caught a small rodent in the marsh, and flew back to the pole. Normally they feed on lemmings in the arctic.

She swallowed it whole.

I went back one week later. There was no owl on the telephone pole, so I went searching along the beach. I spotted a snowy owl sitting in the dunes. I got as close as I could without going beyond the signs that say to keep off dunes to prevent beach errosion.
