At the edge of the Icelandic Highlands at the uppermost part of Þjórsárdalur valley, you will find one of the most beautiful small oasis in Iceland. There are actually many places you label as an oasis in Iceland and Gjáin is most definitely one of the most beautiful, you will feel as you are entering into a real world fairytale.

Illagil Canyon at Fjallabak Nyrðri Highlands │ Iceland photo Gallery
Landmannalaugar is a place in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve in the Highlands of Iceland. It is at the edge of Laugahraun lava field, which was formed in an eruption around the year 1477. It is known for its natural geothermal hot springs and surrounding landscape.

While the Icelandic Highlands mostly consist of barren wastelands, Hvannalindir is a lush oasis, nesting between Kreppyhryggur Ridge to the east and Lindafjöll mountains to the west.

Núpsvötn river Patterns in black sand │ Iceland Photo Gallery
Westernmost at Skeiðarársandur, Núpsvötn lakes are to be found. They are nourished by the rock stream Núpsá and the glacier river Súla. Súla flows down from the edge of Skeiðarárjökull glacier, at the corner of Eystrafjall mountain.
