District of Columbia Mayor Vincent C. Gray joined more than 680 mayors across the nation in proclaiming April 9, 2013 as the first-ever Mayors' Day of Recognition for National Service. Led by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors; the Corporation for National and Community Service; Cities of Service; and the National League of Cities, the Mayors' Day of Recognition for National Service convenes mayors across the country to highlight the value and impact of national service programs, such as AmeriCorps and Senior Corps, with public events, service projects and traditional and social media engagement.
