Rhönexpress – Railway-Bike-Express

What to do with an old railroad? That was the question then, when the rails were lifted of the ground. Now there’s a cycle path, 30 km long, that wiggles through the landscape and villages in the so-called Rhön, a region in the north of Bavaria. To keep railway history alive, former traffic lights or other technical stuff became features of the new new path. Also relict of the past are those small houses – used for signal technique back then – that are now spraypainted with historical motifs, based on a special stencil technique…quite grinding but worth the effort.
A text, which you can find on every single house, provides some background-information for the viewer. The project was realized in close cooperation with the landscape architect studio Topo Neo.
