Solastalgia

The human body constantly communicates with the outside world through visual, tactile, auditory, olfactory stimuli, which it registers and to which it adapts. Our own being is defined by the place where we were born, raised or live, whose characteristics remain imprinted in the soul and memory.

"Solastalgia" is the paradoxical emotion of longing for "home" and the suffering felt as a result of the irreversible transformations of a familiar space. Symbol of maternal protection, the cradle is the representation of this natural setting that brings relief, peace and security. Like nature affected by human activity, the seven swings are fragile. Their rhythm and cycle are broken, their potential to sustain, to move, to generate fruit, creative momentum, to protect and to comfort is lost.

The work is made using a personal technique, linen and hemp, natural fibers with low negative impact on the environment, naturally dyed, with onion and walnut leaves.

The work was selected for the DIPLOMA show 2021 in Romania. DIPLOMA recognizes some of Romania’s most exciting emerging design and fine arts talent, giving a unique curated environment for young designers to exhibit their graduations projects.
