Project 2
Marsha McQueen
The goal is to implement procedural design to explore our digital identities and the space that said identities reside. It is an exploration of how Digital space has influenced us not just individually but culturally as well. With this project I will use 3D CAD (mainly Houdini) as well as 3D printing to create unique organic models that contradicts popular views of our digital space in order to give it a new perspective.
Exploring the relationship between the same shape but differing inputs.
Following "No VEX Houdini: My First(ish) Setup: Abstract Sails" by Moritz on Entagma.com as a way of exploring what I could do on Houdini

With wanting to explore our digital identities and how the internet is affecting our lives I though that it was essential to research statistics and studies on the subjects.

"The Internet constantly confronts us with evidence of our past. Are we losing the chance to remake ourselves?"

"Now that the Internet is more permanent, and more pervasive, it’s hard to avoid the relics of past identities."

Digital Identity in New Zealand: Technical choices have human impacts
by James Ting-Edwards

"The basic idea of digital identity is to offer a digital alternative to physical identity documents like a driver’s licence, a passport, or a gym membership card."

"Questions of how we identify ourselves and others are fundamental to social life. So it’s vital that the design, use, and regulation of digital identity systems draws on diverse perspectives across society."

"The idea of digital identity is really interesting to organisations that gather and use lots of information about people, like official government registries or businesses like banks. But most of us, the people who all this information is about, have not really had a chance to engage on the good, bad, and ugly issues around digital identity."

"There are also big challenges with how systems treat identity. Our identity can relate to deeply personal issues of who we are and our place in the world, and it can change over time.
If systems are not carefully designed to navigate these issues, they can force people into pre-set categories and cause serious problems."

" the potential for passes to be extremely offensive and retraumatising when they deadname or misgender transgender and nonbinary people, referring to old information on photo IDs that do not match a person’s identity."
